Regensburg
has become a magnet for visitors, not least due to its appointment as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006 and the three-day visit to the Pope. The old town ensemble of the best preserved medieval city in Germany with over 1,000 top-class architectural monuments is particularly attractive for tourists. With the oldest surviving stone bridge in Germany and the most important Gothic building in Bavaria, St. Peter’s Cathedral, Regensburg offers remarkable superlatives and therefore important attractions for international guests.
In addition, Regensburg has an above-average number of restaurants, street cafes, brewpubs, small beer gardens in the courtyards of the patrician castles that have been preserved, and countless trendy bars, all of which can be reached on foot via the traffic-calmed old town with its winding alleys and squares. This lively atmosphere gives Regensburg an incomparable flair, which many visitors compare with the charm of southern piazzas.
Another USP is that Regensburg offers an attractive environment for excursions, hikes and bike tours. So the audience is mixed from school groups, family trips and cycling to the senior group.
